I am Deiby Cánovas, a self-taugh Cuban painter, born in Artemisa
in 1971. Since I was a little boy, my interest in painting and drawing was my passion. I grew up in an artistic environment of oils and brushes. I was guided by my father’s expert hands, since he is
also a painter. He helped me explore different styles like cubism, surrealism and others. I studied furniture design, learning wood carving helped me enter the Association of Cuban Artists (ACAA). I developed as an artist utilizing oils, canvases, gouges and wood, defining my own style. I was influenced at an early age by Wilfredo Lam and Picasso, always mixing their styles with the theme of women, love, and human relationships and the surreal world where I was born...the Cuban fields.
